| Anthropology Consultants Anthropology Consultants was created by
Dr Deema Kaneff and Dr Frances Pine. The
company offers the services of senior anthropologists to NGOs,
development organisations, government departments, financial institutions,
corporations and industry. Through our knowledge and understanding of
local peoples, based on extensive ethnographic fieldwork, theoretical and
historical analysis, surveys and customer-specific fieldwork projects, we can
make a unique contribution to social planning, policy formation and business
projects. The types of services
offered are discussed further in Our Services. Dr Deema Kaneff and Dr Frances Pine specialise
in east and central European countries. The
consultancy also has well developed contacts with anthropologists whose
expertise spans the globe and whose services can be tailored to client projects. At Anthropology Consultants we are committed to providing an ethical service that is practically oriented and maintains respect for human diversity.
The Principals Dr Deema Kaneff and Dr Frances Pine draw on a
vast body of experience and knowledge that is based on years of research,
covering the socialist and postsocialist periods, in east and central European
countries. They have each lived in
a number of locations in the region and are thus uniquely informed about local
conditions. They have connections and associations with
experts both within the anthropological community and further afield in the
social sciences and business more generally.
They have been associated, in various professional capacities, with some
of the top anthropology institutions in Europe, including Cambridge University
in England and the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Germany.
This allows them to draw upon extensive human resources and technical
expertise. It also gives them
access to a wide network of globally recognised experts and specialists.
As and when required they can call on external partners or subcontractors
for advice or expert review. They
are also well connected to local specialists in east and central European
countries. Dr Kaneff and Dr Pine are leading experts in
their fields. They have presented
their results in conferences around the world, have authored numerous books and
published articles in internationally refereed journals. Both principals have managed small and large
scale projects. They have also both
worked on individual and team programmes. They
have had considerable experience as advisors to the legal profession in human
rights matters. At the moment they
are jointly heading a team project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. This comparative project identifies ways in which Bulgarian
and Polish citizens are being excluded from economic resources and the role of
informal (non-state) networks, such as kinship, in making these resources more
accessible. The project has
practical relevance in providing qualitative data on a range of issues from the
informal economy to social/economic mobility, consumption, markets and
conversely, corruption. For further details on the two principals see: Dr Deema Kaneff and Dr Frances Pine
